Anica Xie is an multimedia artist based in New York and California. 

 

She is a strong advocate for dispensable and candid aesthetics. The paradoxical fault lines that exist between blurriness and clarity, discipline and emotion, ephemera and eternity, and linear and warped time are part of her language of restraint and self reflection. Alongside neurology, these are key areas of exploration which inform her practice.

In a growing metropolis, glimmering bodies of water are illusory expanses of silence, anonymity, and reservoirs of peace. ​​

 

Her influences include Gilles Deleuze, Dante Alighieri, John Singer Sargent, Édouard Manet, Marguerite Duras, Josef Albers, Wassily Kandinsky, and Egon Schiele. Medieval art, Greco-Roman art, and international cinema are also sources where inspiration is gleaned.
